Been living here since 2022. Median household income is $75,502, which feels about average for the area. Average temperature is around 70--F, so the weather is moderate. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What would you do? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Used to live on the East side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely tough and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Downtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Thai places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
