Why I chose New Brighton over bigger cities
First post here. Military spouse here. Rent is about $1,327/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,327 for rent here. With a population of 22,900, New Brighton is a small town. The unemployment rate is 1.3%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Great weather
- Easy commute
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Sprawl everywhere
- Poor road conditions
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
Worth the trade-offs? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.
