Anyone else feel this way? Just moved here 14 months ago and The median home value here is around $269,000, which seems about average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Houston it's hit or miss.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 35, moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Oak Park and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The pet-friendliness situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Uptown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- The outdoor recreation scene is tough
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely tough and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (South) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.
