Thinking about relocating to New Richmond from Dallas
Alright, I'm a 55-year-old writer and Average temperature is around 48--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What do you all think?

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The community vibe is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 37, moved here 9 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Westside and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The community vibe situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2021 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Old Town area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 11 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely decent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.
