Best industries in North Decatur right now

Hi all, Born and raised here. You can expect to pay around $1,750 for rent here. With a population of 18,460, North Decatur is a small town. Rent is about $1,750/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I overthinking this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much manageable but now it's better than expected.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is solid in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely average and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Highland) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
