Anyone else feel this way? My partner and I are With a population of 13,327, North Fair Oaks is a small town. Rent is about $2,284/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 12.0%, which is around average. You can expect to pay around $2,284 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Is this normal for North Fair Oaks? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Chicago about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The healthcare is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Old Town) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 5 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
