Moving from Albuquerque to North Highlands next month

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Rent is about $1,585/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $65,090 in North Highlands. You can expect to pay around $1,585 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in marketing. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is challenging in most areas.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
