Longtime lurker here, Just moved here 7 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -North Salt Lake sits at 116.3 per 100K. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Would love some local perspective. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Chicago it's surprisingly good.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a real estate agent, 48, moved here 13 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Riverside and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The walkability situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Westside. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much growing but now it's surprisingly good.
