I've lived in Oak Park for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is solid
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

- Affordable housing options
- The cost of living scene is hit or miss
The downsides:

- Limited entertainment options
