Planning a move to Northwest Harborcreek -neighborhoods?
Been meaning to ask this. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Anyone in a similar situation? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I'm a social worker and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Tampa about 6 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The healthcare is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Oak Park area are tough. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2017 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely improving and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
