Top 5 things I love about Norton Shores

Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Norton Shores sits at 149.8 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Is this normal for Norton Shores? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Austin about 9 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I work in legal here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is tough. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
