Hey, I'm a teacher here and Homes are going for about $421,700 on average. The median home value here is around $421,700, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Oak Harbor sits at 131.6 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Does this match your experience? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Bought a house here in 2018 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from San Francisco about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The healthcare is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 9 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
