First post here. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $851 for rent here. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Houston about 8 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Springfield for 13 years. Moved from San Diego for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Rising rent and home prices. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
