Anyone else feel this way? The median home value here is around $93,900, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Is this normal for Phillipsburg?

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in South area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The cost of living is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 57, moved here 6 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The outdoor recreation situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Tampa about 7 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely underrated and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Uptown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.
