Longtime lurker here, Born and raised here. Crime rate is something to consider -Pinewood sits at 581.2 per 100K. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in North area are tough. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 14 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Riverside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Affordable housing options
- The nightlife scene is decent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much stable but now it's surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 28, moved here 1 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Oak Park and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The safety situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for couples. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
