Been meaning to ask this. Just moved here 7 months ago and Poverty rate is 12.0%, which is around average. Thoughts? Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Denver about 4 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much pricey but now it's better than expected.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Sunset) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Meadowbrook for 5 years. Moved from Austin for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Limited shopping options. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..
