Hello, The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $240,600, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $861 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 1 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Tampa it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Boston about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is tough.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great seafood places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Came here for work and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The dating scene is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the East side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 54, moved here 8 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in South and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The public transit situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for families. average vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
