What's it really like living in Pocatello?

With a population of 57,152, Pocatello is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -Pocatello sits at 412.3 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Thanks in advance!

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 13 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Tampa about 8 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is improving.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..
