Random thought, I'm a college student here and Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $861/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $861 for rent here. Median household income is $57,931, which feels about average for the area. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Springfield) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
