OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Tampa about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 49, moved here 8 years ago from Miami. I've lived in East and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for families. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Westside for 1 years. Moved from Houston for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Bugs and humidity in summer. And cost of living can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
