Housing in Port Orchard compared to Albuquerque

I relocated for work and The median home value here is around $492,000, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $1,760 for rent here. Median household income is $81,472, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a small town city with about 16,398 people. With a population of 16,398, Port Orchard is a small town. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not enough green space
Am I overthinking this? The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 26, moved here 11 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Highland and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The weather situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for retirees. decent vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Springfield for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
- The dating scene scene is tough

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Salt Lake City it's tough.
