Top 5 things I love about Port Orchard

I'm originally from Cincinnati and Rent is about $1,760/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $492,000 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,760 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Not very walkable
- Homelessness issues downtown
- Not enough green space
Should I be concerned? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from San Francisco about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
