Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Dallas about 14 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much developing but now it's average.
