Hello, Homes are going for about $90,600 on average. The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. With a population of 6,341, Portland is a small town. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great Vietnamese places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Riverside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
