Things Portsmouth needs to improve

Been meaning to ask this. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $58,972 in Portsmouth. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Has anyone dealt with this? The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to.

Bought a house here in 2023 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely better than expected and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (The Heights) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for work and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The safety is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
