Been meaning to ask this. I'm a remote worker and The median home value here is around $162,100, which is actually reasonable. It's a a small town city with about 1,330 people. The unemployment rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 5.8%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Good schools
- Walkable downtown
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- High property taxes
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Anyone in a similar situation? TIA! The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Springfield) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 45, moved here 7 years ago from LA. I've lived in East and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The weather situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for young professionals. average vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
