Working remotely from Pullman

First post here. I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,010/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Pullman sits at 121.4 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Anyone in a similar situation?

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much wild but now it's solid.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Downtown for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- The outdoor recreation scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 4 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Sunset for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The dating scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been here 8 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for school and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The cultural scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
