Relocating to Rensselaer, IN -pros and cons?

Curious what people think. Military spouse here. Median household income is $61,648, which feels about average for the area. The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $149,100 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Anyone in a similar situation? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I work in engineering here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in education. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
