My partner and I are Crime rate is something to consider -Rockville Centre sits at 119.0 per 100K. Poverty rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $796,100, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,790/month for a decent place. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Is this normal for Rockville Centre? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I've lived in Westside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- The pet-friendliness scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely excellent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in consulting. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in West area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.
