Random thought, The median home value here is around $278,000, which seems about average. Median household income is $82,993, which feels pretty solid for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Would love some local perspective. Thanks in advance! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (North) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in South for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- The walkability scene is average
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 7 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..
