Hey, We have two kids and It's a a small town city with about 10,881 people. Rent is about $1,349/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,349 for rent here. Median household income is $97,704, which feels pretty solid for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Let me know your thoughts. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Southern.
No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely underrated and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (East) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Maple Ridge area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 10 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
