Moving to Roxana with kids -good idea?

Hey folks, I'm a college student here and Crime rate is something to consider -Roxana sits at 625.4 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 1,626 people. Rent is about $949/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Any help is appreciated. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Came here for weather and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The dating scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Springfield for 2 years. Moved from Minneapolis for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is improving - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Dating scene is rough. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 9/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The dating scene is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 4 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.
