Just moved to Ruch, any tips?

Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Tucson and Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. The weather takes some getting used to. Appreciate any input. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Used to live on the West side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 40, moved here 12 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Limited shopping options
3. The job market situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Raleigh it's pretty good.
