OK so I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $16,052 in San Germ--n zona urbana. Rent is about $404/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What do you all think? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

I've been here 11 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a sales manager, 36, moved here 12 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Downtown and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The pet-friendliness situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
