Worst things about San Luis Obispo nobody talks about
My partner and I are With a population of 48,039, San Luis Obispo is a smaller city. It's a a smaller city city with about 48,039 people. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. Crime rate is something to consider -San Luis Obispo sits at 402.2 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is solid in most areas.

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great BBQ places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Nashville it's underrated.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Downtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
