Best restaurants in Shafter?

First post here. Crime rate is something to consider -Shafter sits at 259.1 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 20,618 people. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Would love some local perspective. TIA! Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've lived in Midtown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The outdoor recreation scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Highland for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The housing market scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Downtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Uptown area are underrated. Kids love it here.
