Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 4 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Chicago about 2 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..
