Couple moving to Sherman from out of state

Longtime lurker here, You can expect to pay around $1,177 for rent here. With a population of 45,036, Sherman is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 64--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 9.9%, which is pretty low. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Should I be concerned? The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 47, moved here 12 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Westside and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The traffic situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Uptown area are improving. Kids love it here.
