Things Sherman needs to improve

Random thought, I'm single, late 40s, and With a population of 45,036, Sherman is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $219,300, which is actually reasonable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2015 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone about the same since then.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 54, moved here 13 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in South and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Close to major attractions
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The dating scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 52, moved here 8 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Uptown and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The public transit situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**

I've lived in Uptown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- The traffic scene is solid

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited public transit options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely excellent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Westside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
