Moving to Shingle Springs for work -advice?

Anyone else feel this way? Homes are going for about $686,300 on average. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $109,531, which feels pretty solid for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Does this match your experience? The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The nightlife is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Midtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 11 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been here 10 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is improving.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Eastside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- The walkability scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
