Thinking about relocating to South Huntington from Miami

My family moved here when I was a kid. Household incomes average around $151,078 in South Huntington. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Would love some local perspective. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to.

I've lived in Midtown for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Seattle about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is challenging.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The cost of living is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely tough and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Downtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
