Working in South Huntington -salaries realistic?

Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $614,200 on average. The unemployment rate is 4.8%, which is about average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Worth the trade-offs? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in education. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 42, moved here 7 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Oak Park and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The nightlife situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Tampa about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.
