Moving to South Park with kids -good idea?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm retired and With a population of 2,021, South Park is a small town. Poverty rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Any advice would be great. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 31, moved here 14 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Fairview and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The traffic situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 1 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Minneapolis about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..
