Hey everyone, Rent is about $795/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $57,068 in Spencer. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Thanks in advance! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Chicago about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great farm-to-table places. it's been a really good experience overall.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The traffic is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Maple Ridge area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 2 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
