Moved here 11 years ago for work. Springfield has a small but active network for young professionals. The income situation is decent — median around $45,984. Rent runs about $920/month for a typical apartment. The social scene is hit or miss depending on the area. Would I recommend it? Absolutely..

The food scene here is seriously underrated. So many great restaurants.

I'd add that the school system has been improving steadily. Otherwise spot on!

If you can afford it, Highland Park is the best place to live. Period.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Coming from San Francisco, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are about the same.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.
