Starting a business in Springfield?

Random thought, I'm a remote worker and Poverty rate is 12.0%, which is around average. Rent is about $920/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I've lived in Old Town for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- The food scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely excellent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Downtown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 56, moved here 9 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in East and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for remote workers. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 6 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into running, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Minneapolis about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Baltimore about 11 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..
