Hey folks, I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 25, moved here 11 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Old Town and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The community vibe situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for retirees. decent vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Uptown for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- The dating scene scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2015 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.
