I've lived in The Heights for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The walkability scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Background: I'm a sales manager, 39, moved here 14 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Old Town and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The healthcare situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
