St. Cloud vs Omaha -which is better?

Hey everyone, My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $1,005 for rent here. Poverty rate is 11.9%, which is around average. Household incomes average around $61,112 in St. Cloud. Rent is about $1,005/month for a decent place. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Would love some local perspective. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from New York about 1 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
