Hello, Average temperature is around 44--F, so bundle up in winter. Household incomes average around $130,814 in St. Michael. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The job market is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Nashville about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is solid.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Downtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- The traffic scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Midtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much pricey but now it's pretty good.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
